The 2010 MacBook
Source: http://notebookcritic.com/2009/08/23/my-take-on-the-tablet-again-if-anyone-cares/

Why ponder the elusive Tablet when there is a giant hole in Apple’s lineup staring us right in the face – the MacBook.

MacBook is important to Apple and it has languished since the unibody (later to be called Pro) 13″ version. There is a clearer distinction now between the Pro/non-Pro Macbooks but current plastic model seems like an afterthought. There is no good, better, best option.

Unless they plan to kill the MacBook, it seems likely to me that Apple has some plans for that segment. Could it be a tablet?

No, I think the Tablet fits into the iPod range. If it exists, it will be a very specialized product.

MacBook is Apple’s general purpose entry level PC – it’s hard to imagine that going away. Right now the platform Apple uses is very good – Nvidia’s 9400m IGP chipset. Apple will not ruin it by installing useless Atom or only slightly less useless CULV CPU in it.

Apple’s minimum standard for a computer that will run iLife is Intel Dual Core. Therefore, the only way to differentiate MacBooks from Pros is by using Intel value CPUs with less cache, slower RAM and a plastic case.

Despite these penalties the plastic MacBook delivers about 90% the performance of the 13″ Pro. Lucky for Apple they managed to make the 13″ MacBook Pro extremely appealing with its hard core battery stamina and gorgeous screen (not to mention its hot body).

I think that when Apple moves MacBook Pros to the next Intel notebook Core 2 Duo refresh – alleged to use a faster 1333 MHz bus and matching DDR3 plus Nvidia’s new and improved IGP (lets call 205m) - that we will see a 9400m based value MacBook at the $799 price point. It will essentially stand pat in terms of performance (but at a lower price) as the Pros get much faster.

The new Intel CPU and Nvidia chipset will feature a GPU that is 30-40% faster than the 9400m and memory that is 30% faster. That will open up a reasonably big gap in performance between the base MacBook Pro 13″ and the regular MacBook. That discrepancy in performance will allow Apple to position everyone’s favorite polycarbonate volksputer in the value segment at the low low price of $799 or even $699 if they are feeling generous. I imagine an integrated battery will be employed allowing for a thinner and sturdier chassis and posibly some other design tweaks – but you will still know exactly what it is when someone walks by with one.

With decent hardware like a 9400m GPU, Apple’s unmatched software (Snow Leopard and iLifeX) and a very competive price I can see 15% marketshare becoming a real possibility. Look for these changes to happen in the next six to nine months

Samsung Omnia Pro

One of Samsung’s high-end, touch screen phone but with a QWERTY keyboard to it. Yes that’s right! touch screen and QWERTY keyboard in one phone.

Samsung Pro

The Pro’s interface is all business. Underneath running is Windows Mobile 6.1 and is upgradable to Windows Mobile 6.5. The phone uses an ample 3.5-inch, AMOLED screen, at a WVGA resolution of 800 by 480 pixels, that gives a large keyboard plenty of room to hide when it’s not needed. It comes with a 5-megapixel camera with auto focus and a LED flash, 1GB of internal memory, can handle microSD cards up to 32GB, able to integrate with a DLNA living room, and will have TV output capabilities for showing movies and pictures on a larger screen.

S2

Smartphones are the phones of the future and these are just a few of what’s to come but as for their prices, it ranges from $200 to $700 and even higher. And as these cellular giants say… “Having all these features to make things easier for you is worth your money”… Technology does make life a lot easier especially when it comes to communication but we also have to be practical sometimes.

Samsung Omnia 2

The Samsung Omnia 2 will be a Windows Mobile phone running Samsung’s own TouchWIZ interface version 2.0. Its 3.7-inch active matrix OLED (AMOLED) display will be the largest OLED screen available on a mobile device.

s3

S4

It has a high-resolution of 800 by 480 pixel display whose colors are bright, sharp and crisp. It can handle multiple home screens where you can place widgets. The camera boost to an 8-megapixel sensor, and the phone is able to record video up to WVGA resolution with 8GB of internal storage. Samsung is really on the go for the smartphone trend.

Nokia N900

N900 is equipped with a slide-out QWERTY thumbboard, Quad-band GSM network support, 10/2 Mbps HSPA connectivity (with T-Mobile USA support), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 support. In terms of RAM, it offers 256 MB RAM plus 768 MB virtual memory.

It’s also capable of video and audio playback, and offers up to 32GB of internal storage as well as a microSD memory slot capable of holding 16GB cards.

HTC Imagio

This phone has the best features we’ve seen among HTC’s Windows Moblie line up plus Verizon Wireless’ best services including V Cast Mobile TV. It’s a big phone, but touchscreen fans will like the huge, 3.6-inch, hi-res display. It also comes loaded with Microsoft’s newest Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system.

H1

The HTC Imagio has all the great calling and contacts features of the Touch Pro2, plus Web browsing with Flash video support, and even the Microsoft Windows Marketplace.

H2

HTC Imagio has plenty of great and occasionally unique features, and if you’re a dedicated Verizon fan looking for an innovative, high-end smartphone, the HTC Imagio is for you.

Last but not least…

Sony Ericsson Xperia X2

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 will be running on the new Windows Mobile 6.5 and on Sony Ericsson’s enignmatic Panels interface. It has a slideview feature, which will offer users an overview of missed incoming activity and make it easy to jump to missed calls, messages and the like.

SN1

The Phone has an 800 by 480 pixel resolution, WVGA resolution still pegs the phone at the top of the mobile marketplace. The phone will use resistive touch technology, a mix of stylus and finger input. The camera boosts an 8.1-megapixel sensor that uses touch focus. To help with images, there will also be an image stabilizer on board, and users will be able to geo tag and upload photos from the device.

SN2

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 will rely on the Panels interface on top of Windows Mobile with the help of an improved Panels SDK with a Panelizer function. You’ll be able to convert existing Flash, Java and Windows Mobile applications into a Panel using the Panelizer. It already has 14 panels on board, with another 16 panels available for download. First round panels will include Skype, Mytopia, Google, CNN and Windows Live, along with Sony Ericsson’s 3D signature panel. You can schedule panels so that your favorite panel will appear at certain times of day.

This is just a quick preview of what is to come. We can expect 4G smartphones by January where you can download movies in as fast as five minutes. And as for their price, it ranges from $200 to $700 and even higher but these phones will surely be the future in cellular and wireless technology.

Cellular giants wants to make sure that they’ve got everything you need in one phone and if I may suggest, I’d like a phone that is capable of detecting body temperature just like a thermometer. I hope that they’ll be able to invent a special type of earplug that is similar to a small earphone where you can connect it to your phone and the phone would show you your body temperature. With all these viruses and diseases around, a thermometer would always come in handy. How about you? What would you like to have in your phone?

Apple’s Plan to Enter the E-reader Market

There has been a rapid development in the e-reader world where many have just recognized the power of e-books, although rumors abound regarding Apple's plans for this field in which are as yet uninvolved. Apple are due a new product shortly and there has been a great deal of activity, both in development and verbally. All that remains to be seen is the form that the expected new product will take.

It is almost a given that e-reader capability will be incorporated but whether or not this will be the main focus of the product is unknown. It is highly unlikely, however, since Apple have not professed a great desire to enter the eBook reader market in recent months. Whether or not this is a subterfuge however, will be established only when the new product is unveiled. Will be it be a tablet with e-reader functionality, or an e-reader that can also do other things? The consensus is the former.

In a January 2008 media interview, founder Steve Jobs stated that the Amazon Kindle was not finding significant use by Americans and that Apple intended to enter the market with a new e-book reader that would serve their needs. He recently told the New York Times that Apple aren't interested in a single-purpose eBook reader, so there is a wealth of predictions of what Apples' new product will be.

While we are still waiting, it would make sense for Apple's planned new tablet to be released before Christmas, and even more likely that it will incorporate an eBook reader as part of a multi-purpose application platform. It has been heard that this will incorporate the iPhone operating system

, either as currently or in a modified form. Some, however, are quoting the first quarter of 2010 for the main launch, with details of the hardware being released in advance of that to allow manufacturers to develop applications, as Apple did in 2007 with the iPhone.

The current buzz is that it will have a 9.6 inch color screen using OLED technology, although others have mentioned a 13 inch tablet. The rumors possibly arose from a leak earlier this year that LG were working on a 10 inch OLED touch-screen for a new Apple tablet. As it was described in article "How to Choose the Most Suitable e-Reader" (Digital Book Readers), the Kindle DX offers a 9.7 inch grayscale screen, and it has also been reported that 9.6 inch color touch-screens are being assembled in Taiwan for Apple.

This might or might not figure with the belief that Apple will focus on its e-reader capability with a $500 price tag, but others expect a launch at $800 with a more complex product offering e-book readability as only one of many of the capabilities that the reputed OLED product could also provide.

As discussed earlier, the Apple screen is said to be using OLED (organic light-emitting diode) technology in the screen, similar to that used with TVs, and incorporating new touch software that allows the user to turn pages easily, and enlarge them with the use of two fingers, and also that it will be suitable for both books and newspapers. It is conceivable that the technology can enable press advertising to contain links that will enable the reader to directly access advertisers' websites. It has also been rumored that a low-cost subscription will be applied for access to newspapers and books, although the problems of price for downloaded products that has beset the music world might also intervene.

It is likely that the hardware prices being quoted are too high for a dedicated e-reader, and it is highly unlikely that Apple would fail to incorporate music and games technology into any new product. Whether this is fact or fancy remains to be seen, but what is fact is that the competition is not sitting around waiting. There will be a few new products in the stores this Christmas, and Apple's competition will be different to what it was when they began their development.

What is also true is that many people are awaiting the new product with a great deal of anticipation. Will it be a burst bubble, or will it blow the competition away? Naturally, Apple is saying littlePsychology Articles, but the iTunes store has just introduced a comic book called "Mayhem" which is currently available with one song from the store.

Is this an indication of the future?

Winds of Change in the Electronic Security Industry

Shrinking market share due to changing technologies and increasing competition threatens the survival of many businesses in the security industry - including those with a large subscriber base. Companies that intend to lead and stay true to their vision must change in order to remain relevant to their Customers.

Change improves organisational competitiveness and allows a company to respond to the ever evolving marketplace. However, change brings along uncertainty and leaders must be able to reassure their people that the business will benefit in the long run. Leaders must convince the whole company that IP will play a very important role within the security industry over the next decade and that it would be a grave mistake to think otherwise. Businesses must innovate
when faced with the uncertainty of new technology.

It should be noted that both Customers and employees are resistant to change. It requires a responsible leadership to collectively assemble and integrate the whole company's efforts toward facing the inevitable. Those who's job it is to lead the change must first map out a definitive plan for the transition from old analogue technology to the newer digital world of IP. Planning ahead helps everyone understand the direction of change and should be viewed as a chance to open up new opportunities instead of persisting existing insecurities.

Navigating the change to IP is not in itself a gaurantee of success, but more an opportunity to take advantage of new methods of regaining a competitive edge. People within the business must therefore learn how to be flexible, adopt new ideas, new processes and systems and learn to abandon old ways. Leaders and their people must identify what is needed for the journey into the world of IP and what hangups must be defeated as they move from the old land to the new land.

It is essential to work as a team and to ensure that a sufficient number of people with the right technical expertise are on board in order to increase the pace of the transition. If your company believes they do not have the technical expertise to introduce an IP based monitoring solution

into your organisation, then think again. Some companies can offer you guidance and patience from start to finish, regardless of your technical ability in the area of IP.

Leaders in your company can focus more on learning to deal with both resistors and supporters. You should make sure that supporters are encouraged, while resistors are either made to accept the change process or are dropped along the way. Clearly state the company vision and mission once a sufficient number of people are on board so that the whole company works and moves in the same direction. Prepare the team mentally through education and simulations so that they are in a position to visualise the change processFree Articles, as well as to envision the new land of growth and prosperity that the new technology will bring them.
